Job Description
1Password is growing. We’ve surpassed $400M in ARR and we’re continuing to accelerate, earning a spot on the Forbes Cloud 100 for four years in a row and teaming up with iconic partners like Oracle Red Bull Racing. About 1Password At 1Password, we’re building the foundation for a safe, productive digital future. Our mission is to unleash employee productivity without compromising security by ensuring every identity is authentic, every application sign-in is secure, and every device is trusted. We innovated the market-leading enterprise password manager and pioneered Unified Access Management, a new cybersecurity category built for the way people and AI agents work today. As one of the most loved brands in cybersecurity, we take a human-centric approach in everything from product strategy to user experience. Over 180,000 businesses, from Fortune 100 leaders to the world’s most innovative AI companies, trust 1Password to help their teams securely adopt the SaaS and AI tools they need to do their best work. If you're excited about the opportunity to contribute to the digital safety of millions, to work alongside a team of curious, driven individuals, and to solve hard problems in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, then we want to hear from you. Come join us and help shape a safer, simpler digital future. The Authentication Services team focuses on enabling secure, reliable authentication experiences at 1Password by building and evolving the services, workflows, and infrastructure that power sign-in and identity verification. We are dedicated to making authentication capabilities easy to adopt and operate across the company, supporting the full lifecycle—from designing and shipping new authentication features to operating them safely in production. How we’re using AI today Our Engineering, Product, and Design teams are thoughtfully integrating AI across the full software and product development lifecycle to move faster without sacrificing quality or security. In practice, that looks like engineers using AI-assisted coding tools to accelerate reviews and catch bugs earlier, product managers synthesizing user research at scale, and designers rapidly prototyping and iterating with AI-generated mockups. We approach AI the same way we approach security: with clear principles, human accountability at every consequential decision point, and rigorous evaluation before anything ships to customers. This is a remote opportunity within Canada and the US.
What We're Looking For
- Several years of experience managing a team of engineers and owning and operating a service - Deep experience with cloud native infrastructure and backend technologies. While you are not expected to write code, you do need to be able to help the team work through complex technical issues - The ability to create and maintain a positive, healthy team environment in which everyone is supported, encouraged, and meaningfully challenged to do great work.
- Capable of driving the delivery of projects, and creating roadmaps for future work.
- You have helped a team scale both themselves and the services they are responsible for - Experience managing a remote team.
- Collaborate with senior individual contributors to create an engaging technical vision for your team - Work with cross-functional partners to define the best solutions for our customers, both internal and external.
- Work to scope and plan key deliverables for projects and initiatives with the team.
- Drive execution with an emphasis on iterations and deliverables, quality, velocity, and communication.
- Provide technical leadership to developers both in your team and across the engineering organization.
- Coach individual contributors to help them reach their full potential.
- Recruit and retain strong contributors in a dynamic, evolving environment.
- Continue scaling a highly specialized engineering team by working with a team of Engineering Managers to continuously refine hiring, onboarding, and development processes.
How to Stand Out
- Highlight any hands‑on experience with cloud‑native platforms (Kubernetes, Docker, observability stacks) in your resume and interview examples.
- Prepare concrete stories of how you’ve led remote engineering teams through incidents and post‑mortems.
- Showcase familiarity with authentication standards (OAuth, SAML) even if not a primary skill; interviewers value domain knowledge.
- When discussing leadership style, emphasize how you build psychological safety and clear communication rhythms across time zones.
- Research 1Password’s recent product launches and be ready to suggest how authentication could evolve to support AI‑driven workflows.
- If offered a salary discussion, reference the full compensation package (equity, benefits, remote stipend) rather than focusing solely on base pay.
- Watch for vague descriptions of “flexibility” without concrete remote‑work policies; ask about equipment allowances and core collaboration hours during the interview.
