Head of Risk & Fraud
Job Description
This is a net-new leadership role for a peer-to-peer marketplace scaling fast, built to give Trust & Safety a real seat at the table instead of being a reactive cost center. You'll report straight to the COO and own the function end to end: fraud prevention, identity verification, investigations, and moderation. Location
Remote, Colombia - Time Zone: CT - Type: Full-time About the Company An established, fast-scaling two-sided marketplace in flexible housing, connecting hundreds of thousands of property owners with renters needing month-plus stays. Profitable, over a decade in business, and recently recognized as a category leader in its space. How to Stand Out
- Highlight concrete achievements with measurable impact: in your resume or portfolio, include a short case study showing how you reduced fraud loss by ≥30% and cut incident response time by ≥40% at a previous marketplace, detailing the metrics you defined (e.g., fraud‑to‑GMV ratio, false‑positive rate) and the automation tools (Python scripts, AWS Lambda, Snowflake dashboards) you built to track them.
- Demonstrate familiarity with LatamCent’s core tech stack and regional compliance: list experience integrating identity‑verification APIs popular in Latin America (e.g., Veriff, Onfido, local KYC providers) and configuring AML/KYC rules in a cloud environment (AWS/GCP). Show a screenshot or short video of a workflow you designed in a BPM tool (e.g., Camunda, Jira Service Management) that routes high‑risk transactions to manual review.
- Prepare a “Trust & Safety operating model” sketch: before the interview, draft a one‑page diagram that outlines team roles (risk analysts, investigators, automation engineers), key SOPs, and a 12‑month roadmap for scaling moderation (AI‑driven triage, rule‑based scoring, escalation matrix). Walk the interviewers through it to prove you can build the function from zero.
- Emphasize data‑driven decision‑making: bring a live or reproducible analytics demo (e.g., a Tableau/Looker dashboard or a Jupyter notebook) that visualizes fraud‑risk signals you’ve previously tracked, explains how you set thresholds, and shows the resulting ROI. Interviewers will probe for your ability to define “the metrics that actually move the needle.”
- When discussing compensation, research LatamCent’s recent Series B funding round and typical senior‑level risk leadership salaries in Bogotá (USD 120‑150k base + equity). Frame your ask around the value you’ll deliver—e.g., “my roadmap aims to cut fraud loss by $2 M in Year 1, justifying a 15% equity stake alongside a base in the upper quartile.”
