Senior iOS Engineer, Customer Growth
WFA Digital Insight
Thumbtack’s CAGE (Customer Acquisition, Growth, and Engagement) squad tackles the toughest part of a home‑services platform: turning first‑time visitors into repeat customers. The iOS Engineer, Customer Growth will own end‑to‑end feature work that directly influences how users discover and hire local pros, a responsibility that goes beyond polishing UI. What sets this role apart is the blend of rapid experimentation and production‑grade rigor—engineers are expected to ship, measure, and iterate while keeping the app stable for millions of daily users. Collaboration is baked in, with daily touch‑points across design, data, and backend teams, making it a front‑row seat for product‑driven decision making at a scale‑up that values code quality as much as growth velocity.
Job Description
THUMBTACK HELPS MILLIONS OF PEOPLE CONFIDENTLY CARE FOR THEIR HOMES. Thumbtack is the one app you need to take care of and improve your home — from personalized guidance to AI tools and a best-in-class hiring experience. Every day in every county of the U.S., people turn to Thumbtack to complete urgent repairs, seasonal maintenance and bigger improvements. We help homeowners know which projects to do, when to do them and who to hire from our growing community of 300,000 local service businesses. If making an impact inspires you, join us. Imagine what we’ll build together. ABOUT THE GROWTH TEAM The Customer Acquisition, Growth, and Engagement team (CAGE) is focused on streamlining and innovating around the new and returning user experience for Thumbtack. By adding value for users and meeting their needs, we can activate them as first time customers and convince them to return to Thumbtack to help solve future problems by ensuring their experience was a good one. We accomplish this by focusing both on getting the fundamentals right around core experiences like login and auth, as well as by building new features that allow us to better understand user needs early in their journey to get them to the right place. THE CHALLENGE Many of the sorts of changes we’re making are unproven, and as a data driven company, we prefer to run experiments that vet our hypotheses. As an engineer, balancing places we can be scrappy to test ideas quickly vs places we need to take more care to exercise engineering rigor and build things the right way is important. Given we have cross functional teams, if you like looking at user problems from a product or design perspective, you’ll be a great fit for this. WHAT YOU’LL DO - Drive iOS feature projects to completion, focusing on the business and customer impact of those projects.
- Break down large projects into concrete deliverables and milestones that make it easy to track progress.
- Work closely with back-end engineers, product managers, designers, data analysts, and other teams to gather feedback, prioritize projects, and deliver solutions.
- Communicate project status to stakeholders, proactively raising potential blockers and other risks.
- Explore new frameworks and processes while also being able to discuss when (or when not) to use them.
- Participate in a culture that values thoughtful code reviews and frequent deployments.
- Proven track record of shipping consumer-facing apps that users love on the App Store.
- Cross-functional collaboration and communication. We’re moving quickly, so it’s important for our engineers to communicate their status regularly, proactively bring up potential blockers and risks, and keep our cross-functional partners in the loop.
How to Stand Out
- Showcase a portfolio of iOS apps you’ve shipped, emphasizing features that drove user engagement or acquisition.
- Highlight any experience with A/B testing or data‑driven decision making in your resume and interview.
- Prepare to discuss specific Swift architectural patterns you’ve used and why you chose them.
- Bring examples of cross‑functional collaboration, especially with product or design teams.
- When negotiating, mention the remote work stipend and equity component as part of total compensation.
- Watch for vague timelines on project ownership; ask how success is measured for growth experiments.
- Be ready to write a short piece of production‑grade Swift code during the interview to demonstrate your coding style.
