Staff AI Engineer
WFA Digital Insight
Telus Digital’s Staff AI Engineer slot sits at the heart of its AI‑first product strategy, giving you a chance to shape end‑to‑end generative AI pipelines for a global consultancy. The role is unique because it blends deep system architecture with hands‑on model orchestration, requiring you to define multi‑agent coordination, memory strategies, and human‑in‑the‑loop flows across diverse product lines. You’ll own everything from embedding design and vector‑store choices to CI/CD and observability, reporting to senior technical leaders while mentoring engineers. The Brazilian remote setup adds flexibility, with optional office days in São Paulo or Porto Alegre, and the team’s cross‑continental nature means you’ll collaborate with product, data, and operations groups worldwide.

Your role is essential in bringing sophisticated Generative AI and Software Engineering concepts and architectures into tangible, production-ready applications, enhancing digital products through autonomy, intelligence, and real-time adaptation. LOCATION AND FLEXIBILITY This role can be fully remote for candidates based in Brazil, due to team distribution and occasional in-person opportunities. If you are based in São Paulo or Porto Alegre, you are welcome to work from one of our offices on a flexible schedule. RESPONSIBILITIES - Own the end-to-end architecture of AI-powered systems, including Generative AI, agentic workflows, and multi-agent ecosystems, ensuring scalability, modularity, and performance.
- Design and standardize multi-agent coordination, context/memory strategies, and human-in-the-loop interactions across the organization.
- Lead decisions on model selection and architecture trade-offs, balancing latency, cost, accuracy, and scalability; define evaluation frameworks, governance, and safety guardrails.
- Design data architectures for AI systems, including embedding strategies, vector databases, and context pipelines for large-scale unstructured data.
- Ensure production readiness of AI systems through CI/CD, containerized deployment, cloud integration, observability, and reliability engineering.
- Act as a technical leader: mentor engineers, advise on architecture, and communicate trade-offs clearly to technical and executive stakeholders; collaborate across engineering, data, product, and operations to align AI architecture with business goals.
- Drive innovation by evaluating emerging models, frameworks, and architectural paradigms, and incorporate them into TELUS Digital's AI ecosystem.
- Hands-on experience with agentic orchestration frameworks (LangGraph, Google ADK, OpenAI Agents SDK, CrewAI), tool-calling, MCP, and RAG.
- Experience with evaluation and observability tools (RAGAS, LangSmith, Arize, Braintrust) to assess AI system performance.
- Expertise in embeddings, vector databases, and chunking strategies, with an understanding of their trade-offs.
- Experience with CI/CD, containerization/orchestration (Kubernetes), and cloud AI services (AWS Bedrock, Azure AI) for scalable, high-throughput, low-latency, secure deployments.
- Excellent prompt and context engineering skills, and the ability to communicate complex AI concepts to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Experience building GenAI-based data analysis pipelines for large unstructured datasets, combined with advanced agentic AI architecture, ML performance optimization, and integration of AI into larger software ecosystems.
- Completed certifications in Data & AI from a major cloud provider (AWS, Azure, or GCP).
Benefits
- Health and dental plan - Life insurance - Monthly voucher for meals, culture, education, health and mobility - Child care assistance and more! How to Stand Out
- Highlight experience with LangGraph, CrewAI or similar frameworks in your resume and include a link to a live demo or repository.
- Prepare a short end‑to‑end demo that shows model selection, vector‑store setup, and CI/CD deployment to illustrate your production mindset.
- Expect deep dive questions on prompt and context engineering; walk through your iteration process and how you measure performance.
- Emphasize mentorship examples; describe how you introduced best practices or guided junior engineers on AI safety.
- Research Telus Digital’s AI product portfolio ahead of interviews and be ready to discuss concrete ways your skills can add value.
- When discussing compensation, ask about remote‑work allowances such as home‑office stipend and professional‑development budget.
- Watch for vague “flexible schedule” language; clarify core collaboration hours and expectations for synchronous meetings.
