AI training contract
Mechanical Engineering Expert
Engineering · Advertised USD 60-100 an hour. · 25 openings
Mechanical Engineering Expert is contract work for micro1, reviewing and correcting what AI models produce in engineering. The output of the job is expert judgement written down: a model gives an answer, someone who knows the subject decides whether it is right and explains why.
What it requires. This role is gated on phd or academic credential. Applications without it are not considered, and the requirement is stated here because the original advert usually carries it well below the rate.
What it pays. micro1 advertises USD 60 to USD 100 an hour. It also states that pay is output based, paid per task that meets the project specifications, so the hourly figure is an advertised equivalent and not a guaranteed wage.
Where. The listing says this role is remote and names no country. micro1 says it hires talent from around the world, except people who reside in Afghanistan, Belarus, China, Cuba, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Hong Kong, Iran, Iraq, Libya, Macao, Myanmar, North Korea, Russian Federation, Somalia, South Sudan, Sudan, Syria, Venezuela, Ukraine, and Yemen. So this page lists every other country as eligible, on the strength of that rule and not of anything this listing says. Requirements can still differ by role, so check the application page on micro1 before you apply.
micro1 lists 25 openings on this role.
Skills named: remote collaboration, Engineering Mechanics, Thermodynamics, Fluid Mechanics, Heat Transfer, Manufacturing, Vibrations.
Applications are made on micro1, not here. WFA Digital is independent of micro1 and may receive a referral fee if you are hired, at no cost to you.

Job Description Role Title: Mechanical Engineering Expert Role Type: Contractor Location: Remote micro1 is selecting Mechanical Engineering Experts to contribute to a customer's project focused on advancing the capabilities of AI technologies in mechanical engineering. In this role, you'll apply your expertise to help train next-generation AI systems. Your work will shape how models learn, reason, and perform through high-quality, real-world input. No prior experience in AI is required, your domain knowledge is what matters. This is an opportunity to impact the future of engineering by ensuring that AI systems can accurately interpret, solve, and explain complex mechanical engineering challenges spanning design, analysis, and R&D. Experts with a passion for precision, technical detail, and clear written and verbal communication will find this engagement both rewarding and influential. Scope of Work Evaluate and solve advanced mechanical engineering problems spanning design, structural/thermal analysis, and R&D. Review and assess AI-generated technical responses for technical correctness, accuracy, and engineering quality. Apply practical engineering judgment to real-world design and analysis scenarios and theoretical questions. Analyze and troubleshoot mechanical systems using industry-standard techniques such as FEA, statics/dynamics analysis, thermodynamics, and vibration analysis. Contribute domain expertise to inform model improvements and refine AI reasoning in mechanical engineering. Document feedback and provide clear written and verbal explanations to enhance AI learning and performance. Collaborate remotely with a distributed team of experts and project participants. Preferred Qualifications MS or PhD in Mechanical Engineering, or BS in Mechanical Engineering with 8+ years of relevant industry experience. At least 5 years of hands-on experience in mechanical design, analysis, or R&D. Expert knowledge of statics/dynamics, thermodynamics, FEA, and vibration/structural analysis. Proven ability to analyze complex mechanical systems using finite element methods, hand calculations, and experimental validation. Familiarity with relevant standards bodies (ASME BPVC, ASME codes) and design-for-reliability practices. Professional English proficiency with exceptional written and verbal communication skills. Experience with FEA/simulation software (ANSYS, Abaqus, Nastran), CAD platforms, or product R&D in a manufacturing environment is a plus. Strongly preferred — evidence of problem-authoring rigor, such as: service on an olympiad problem committee; a textbook problem-set or solutions-manual author credit; an item-writer role on an NCEES or academic qualifying-exam committee; service on an ASME BPVC or related codes/standards committee; a top placement or team-lead role in Formula SAE/Formula Student, ASME Student Design Competition/HPVC, NASA RASC-AL, or a DARPA challenge; a best-paper award at ASME IMECE, IDETC, or Turbo Expo, or a publication in JMPS; an ASME Melville or Blackall Medal; or an early-career fellowship/grant (NSF CAREER, DOE Early Career, ONR/AFOSR YIP, Sloan Fellowship) or ASME Fellow recognition. Compensation Structure Compensation is output-based; experts are paid per task that meets the project specifications. The time required to complete work may vary depending on the expert's experience and workflow. Minimum submission requirements apply. Experts must submit a minimum of tasks per week. Start Timeline & Availability We typically fill roles within 48 hours and are looking for experts ready to jump in right away. If selected, we expect you to start your first tasks within 24–48 hours of completing onboarding.
