How to Stand Out
- Highlight hands‑on experience with claim‑review platforms (e.g., Epic, NextGen, or R1’s proprietary RCM Suite). In your résumé and interview, cite specific workflows you’ve automated—such as building an Excel macro or Power BI dashboard that reduced denial‑to‑payment cycle time by >15 %.
- Prepare a 2‑page “Denial Case Study” that walks through a complex WC, MVA, or VA claim you resolved: include the statutory provision, the billing code discrepancy, the appeal letter you drafted, and the final reimbursement outcome. Bring this as a PDF link in your application and reference it when asked about problem‑solving.
- Demonstrate mastery of state‑specific statutes by memorizing the top three denial reasons for the states where R1’s biggest clients reside (e.g., CA, TX, FL). During the interview, answer “how would you handle a disputed WC claim in Texas?” with a concise citation of the relevant labor code and a sample appeal strategy.
- Show comfort with data‑driven analytics: be ready to discuss how you’ve used SQL or Python to pull denial trends, segment them by payer type, and present findings to leadership. Mention any experience integrating AI‑assisted coding tools (e.g., OCR‑based claim extraction) and the measurable impact on accuracy.
- Emphasize soft skills R1 values—collaboration across a global team and clear communication with providers. Share a brief story where you coordinated with a remote clinical staff or a third‑party payer across time zones, highlighting how you documented the process in a shared Confluence or Teams space.
- When negotiating salary, reference R1’s market position (top‑ranked revenue‑cycle tech firm) and the specialized nature of complex denial work. Cite industry benchmarks (e.g., $85‑$105k base for similar remote roles) and be prepared to ask for a performance‑based bonus tied to denial‑reversal metrics you can influence.
