How to Stand Out
- Showcase Excel‑driven market analysis: Prepare a 2‑page Excel workbook (attach as a PDF or embed screenshots) that models a realistic market sizing for a photonics product (e.g., supercontinuum lasers in quantum computing). Include dynamic charts, pivot tables, and a clear narrative on assumptions, data sources, and actionable insights—demonstrating the quantitative rigor interviewers expect.
- Highlight remote collaboration tools: In your cover letter and CV, list the exact platforms you use daily (e.g., Slack, Microsoft Teams, Miro, Asana). Cite a recent remote project where you coordinated cross‑functional teams (R&D, sales, and customer support) to launch a new market segment, emphasizing communication cadence and documented outcomes.
- Build a mini‑portfolio of “solution stories”: Create a one‑page PDF with 3 concise case studies that illustrate how you identified a niche market, built a go‑to‑market strategy, and closed a deal. For each, note the photonics‑relevant metrics you tracked in Excel (pipeline velocity, win rate, revenue lift) and the innovative application (medical imaging, space telemetry, etc.).
- Demonstrate curiosity about photonics applications: Prior to the interview, read at least two recent publications or patents on supercontinuum lasers or photonic crystal fibers. Prepare a 2‑minute “innovation pitch” explaining how you would translate one of those breakthroughs into a new market opportunity—showing the curiosity and industry knowledge the hiring team values.
- Prepare a data‑focused salary negotiation deck: Research remote market development salaries for the US (Glassdoor, Payscale, industry reports). Build a simple Excel sheet that compares base pay, bonus potential, and equity against your experience level and proven market wins. Use this sheet to confidently discuss compensation, aligning your ask with the measurable impact you can deliver.
