How to Stand Out
- Prepare a concise teaching demo video (5‑7 min) that showcases a virtual lesson on a core counseling concept (e.g., ethical decision‑making). Use Liberty’s preferred LMS (Blackboard/Canvas) and embed interactive tools like Padlet or Flipgrid to illustrate how you create “good learning conditions” and accommodate diverse learner needs. Include a brief reflective commentary linking the lesson to a biblical worldview and personal spiritual formation.
- Curate a portfolio that pairs each sample syllabus or lesson plan with a one‑paragraph “faith integration” statement. Highlight how you weave Scripture, Christian ethics, and Liberty’s mission (“Training Champions for Christ”) into course objectives, assessments, and classroom dialogue, demonstrating your ability to model the university’s values.
- During the interview, be ready to discuss specific strategies for supporting remote students with differing abilities and life circumstances (e.g., flexible office‑hour scheduling via Zoom, asynchronous discussion boards, differentiated assignments). Cite concrete examples from prior online teaching or counseling supervision that resulted in measurable student engagement or retention improvements.
- Demonstrate proficiency with Liberty’s required tech stack: Blackboard Collaborate, Zoom, Turnitin, and the university’s e‑portfolio system. Bring screenshots or a live walkthrough of a well‑organized course shell, showing clear navigation, rubrics, and integrated resources (e.g., biblical counseling texts, APA‑style research guides).
- When negotiating salary or contract terms, reference Liberty’s adjunct pay scales and the typical 12‑credit load. Propose a modest increase by quantifying added value you bring—such as prior accreditation experience (CACREP), published Christian counseling research, or a proven track record of increasing enrollment in online counseling programs. Offer to pilot a new virtual practicum component that aligns with the university’s strategic goals, positioning yourself as a long‑term asset.
